Study Group Information

Astronomy

We meet on the 4th Friday of each month from 9.45am to 12 noon in Glenfield.

We have a common interest in the origins of the universe including the formation and composition of stars, galaxies, the sun, earth and the Solar system. We generally watch two half hour videos from an expert in the field and then discuss the implications on what we have learned. On other occasions a member may give a short presentation on any subject relevant to Astronomy.

We occasionally arrange visits to the Stardome Observatory & Planetarium at Epsom. We have also arranged a visit to the Warkworth Satellite Station to learn about current research carried out by astronomers at AUT.
