Study Group Information
Maori Language Studies
We meet at the Convenor’s home in Milford.
Beginners 1st Thursday of the month - 1.30pm to 3.30pm
Intermediate 3rd Thursday of the month – 1.30pm to 3.30pm
It is hoped that participants will be able to learn enough during a u3a year to speak and understand some very simple conversation; to understand everyday Māori words now spoken by mainstream TV news readers, some everyday geographic names, and the basic differences between English and Māori grammar.
Study of basic Māori tikanga (protocol & customs) and history will be included. The meetings will be a mix of discussion, presentations, and instruction.
This study group will, by its nature, involve some effort.
